The Nursery Saplings are drumming experts!
Yesterday Joe from The Gathering Drum came to play the drums with us. We sang lots of songs, made different sounds with the drums, and tried to keep the beat. We decided it would be a great idea to make our own drums to play for our friends and our families. We had a wonderful time being creative, and playing them outside.
Socially we worked together sharing the art resources and taking turns. We developed our fine motor skills by snipping with the scissors, bending pipe cleaners, peeling stickers off and using the sellotape independently. Intellectually we decided how best to design our drums, and how to make different sounds using them. We communicated our ideas with each other, and if an idea didn’t work we tried again. Emotionally we developed a real sense of achievement when we finished our drums and we were proud to talk about how we had created them, and we played them for our friends.
